A long time in creation, this design was “in my head” for years before I had the time to actually design it. The incredible hand-dyed fabric by Judy Robertson for the sky was actually the inspiration for this design because the influence of the sun in the upper left corner inspired me to create the filtered sun-light using tulle. The leaves or boughs on the trees took days to cut out even though I starched the fabric heavily. The redwood trees in the foreground came printed on a commercial fabric but I didn’t have enough for the trees further in the distance, so I created them myself using Tsukineko Inks and wax pastels.
