Each year, my husband and I take an annual vacation to Hawaii. We scrimp and save our vacation money all year long so that we can bask in the sun and frolic in the waters of this tropical paradise. Aloha Spirit pays homage to this glorious, magical, beautiful place and was based on my original drawing. I used SkyDye™ fabric, placed on a slant, for the mountains in the distance. Overlays of fine netting or tulle add dimension in the water and machine embroidery with sparkling thread makes it appear as if the sun is bouncing off the water. Tsukineko all-purpose inks were used to change and add shading and dimension to the bark on the palm tree and the palm tree fronds.
