Asked to submit a quilt for consideration for a book with C&T Publishing, featuring innovative fabric imagery, I created Clover Lake. I am proud that this quilt is included in the book, Innovative Fabric Imagery – A Digital Exploration in Quilting by Cyndy Lyle Rymer and Lynn Koolish. It was featured in a special exhibit at the International Quilt Festival in Houston, Texas in the fall of 2007 was in atraveling exhibit beginning in the summer of 2008. My personal challenge was to create a realistic poster-size landscape quilt using digital photography. The original photograph, was taken by Dan Neil, and used with his permission. I enhanced the digital photograph in Adobe Photo Deluxe and printed the image onto computer ready fabric sheets. My goal was to camouflage the joining lines so there were not apparent. When overlapping the photographs, I cut the edges in serendipitous, curvy lines. I replace the printed sky with commercial fabric and also added fabric trees and rocks. The overlays of iridescent bonded Angelina in the water added a shimmer and the extensive machine-embroidery adds texture and dimension. Creating Clover Lake was an interesting study in problem solving!
