When I saw a greeting card by Jackie Penney, I knew immediately I wanted to recreate her scene, Full Bloom in cloth. After numerous attempts to contact Ms. Penney, I finally tracked her down through her publisher and she gave me her blessing to create a quilt using her art as inspiration. As with most projects, I wanted to try a new technique and used Shiva Paintstiks to do much of the painting. These paintstiks are like giant crayons only they are oil paints in stick form, and need to cure for several days to dry. I’m not sure where the geographical region is that inspired Ms. Penney, but to me, it seems like an English garden.
